Literature

So I discovered something today. Or maybe it was finally fully realized. I'm not sure really.

What it is, though, is that I discovered what literature is, in a way. I guess I figured out part of what makes good literate writing as opposed to simply a story. My examples? The Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time. Go me and my fantasy.

Anyway, the specific difference (for any who has read both books) comes from the idea of orality. in Book 2 of WoT there is a poem written by Trollocs (orc thingies). This shows they have poems and written (thus probably oral) language. But what does it mean?

I doubt Robert Jordan (author of WoT) has a good understanding of Orality (from what I know of it) and it shows in his work. I think that if any topic is to be covered, it should be covered with knowledge. This may make my writting life much harder, but the works will improve.
